The Interview
Before the Interview
- Research the company and their website: Understand the company’s mission, values, projects, and recent news to tailor your answers and questions effectively.
- Review the job description: Know the key skills and qualifications the employer is seeking and think about how your experience aligns with them.
- Practice common questions: Rehearse your answers to typical questions, focusing on providing specific examples of your skills and accomplishments.
- Prepare your questions: Develop thoughtful questions about the role, team, and company culture to show your interest and assess if the organization is a good fit for you.
- Plan your attire: Choose a professional outfit that is appropriate for the industry and company culture.
During the Interview
- Arrive Early: Aim to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled time.
- Engage in Positive Body Language: Maintain eye contact, smile, and sit up straight to show confidence and interest.
- Listen Actively: Pay full attention to the interviewer and ask for clarification if you need it.
- Answer Clearly and Concisely: Provide specific examples from your experience to demonstrate your skills and abilities.
- Be Positive: Avoid making negative comments about past employers or colleagues.
- Ask Thoughtful Questions: Use the questions you prepared to learn more about the opportunity.
- Ask About Next Steps: Inquire about the timeline for the hiring process.
- Close Enthusiastically: Thank the interviewer for their time and reaffirm your interest in the position and ask if they have any concerns over your abilities.
- Get business cards from all people that you interviewed with for a follow up email.
After the Interview
- Call right after you get out of the interview Jim, Jessica or Kaitlyn (whoever set up interview) to share your feedback and thoughts. We are required to follow up with the Hiring Manager within an hour after your interview to get their feedback as well.
- Send a Thank-You Note: A personalized thank-you email to each interviewer within 24 hours can significantly impact their decision.
- Provide Requested Information: Respond promptly to any follow-up requests for information or additional references.
